Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about working with Sound Nation—from music and planning to destination weddings and production.
The Sound Nation Experience
-
Sound Nation DJs are not typical wedding DJs. We are passionate about music, and our decades of experience behind the decks reflect that passion. Our DJs are also producers and remixers who create original mixes, edits, and music. We approach each celebration as a musical experience rather than simply showing up with a playlist and pressing play. Our goal is to bring the energy, creativity, and musicality of a great club or live DJ experience into an event setting—while still understanding the importance of your traditions, timeline, and guests.
-
The size of our team depends on the size of your event and the level of production involved. There is always at least one technician on standby with the DJ, and that team can grow when the event requires multiple production elements such as sound, lighting, LED walls, or special effects. For larger productions, we also have additional crew members for setup and strike. This allows us to properly manage the production from beginning to end and ensure that the DJ can stay focused on the music and the experience.
-
Sound Nation was built around the idea that your event should feel like an experience—not simply a DJ playing music in the background. Our DJs are artists, producers, remixers, and experienced performers who bring a club and festival-inspired energy. We combine skilled DJing and music curation with professional production and lighting with a team that knows how to bring it all together. We're not simply there to play music. We're there to create the soundtrack and atmosphere for the entire experience.
CHOOSING YOUR DJ
-
Look for a DJ who is genuinely passionate about music, has the experience to read and entertain a crowd, and brings professionalism to the entire event. A great DJ should be focused on the music and the experience they create—not simply the equipment they provide. Sound systems, lighting, and other production elements are tools that allow a talented DJ to do their job. Ultimately, you're hiring the talent, experience, and ability to create an unforgettable experience for your guests.
-
We want you to know exactly who will be behind the decks on your event day. We discuss your preferred DJ during the initial planning process. We want you to feel completely comfortable with—and confident in—the person who will ultimately be responsible for your music experience. Our goal is simple: you should know and feel good about your DJ before you book.
-
Absolutely. Our DJs are very comfortable on the microphone and can handle as much or as little MCing as your event requires. Whether you need someone to make announcements, introduce special moments, keep the timeline moving, or simply make occasional microphone announcements, we can tailor our MC involvement to your event and your preferences.
Music & DJ Experience
-
Yes. We welcome playlists and can work with Google Docs, Google Sheets, Spotify, or Apple Music. We recommend keeping your requests focused—typically around 20–25 songs and a few “must plays” per event. You can also provide a “do not play” list. One thing we caution against is creating an extremely long playlist. With Spotify and Apple Music, it's easy to add songs with a single tap, and playlists can quickly become hundreds of songs long. We prefer to use your requests as a guide while giving our DJs the flexibility to read the room, build the energy, and create the right musical experience for your guests.
-
With a smile. We welcome requests from your guests and will do our best to work them into the mix when they fit the energy and direction of the event. Our DJs are constantly reading the room, so we may take a request immediately, work it into the set later, or decide that it isn't the right fit for the moment.
-
Absolutely. Our DJs are experienced in mixing music across a wide range of genres and styles. From EDM, Dance, Hip Hop, and Top 40 to Bollywood and Punjabi music, we know how to move between different sounds while keeping the energy of the room flowing. The goal isn't simply to play different genres—it's knowing when to play them, how to transition between them, and how to keep your guests moving on the dance floor.

DESTINATION WEDDINGS
-
Sound Nation has provided music for destination weddings in Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, and throughout the United States. One of our most memorable events was on a private island off the coast of Ireland. We enjoy bringing the Sound Nation experience to destination celebrations and working with couples, planners, venues, and production teams wherever the event takes us.
-
Our destination wedding pricing is based on the specific events we are hired to DJ. If your wedding weekend includes multiple events, we can provide pricing based on the events and services you would like Sound Nation to provide. For destination weddings, travel-related expenses such as airfare, hotel accommodations, and transportation at the destination are also included in the overall cost. We provide a clear breakdown of these expenses so you know what is included when we prepare your proposal.
-
No. Flying with professional DJ equipment is generally not practical because much of the equipment is too large and heavy to transport efficiently. Instead, we provide a detailed technical rider listing the equipment required for your event. That equipment can then be sourced locally in the destination city, allowing our DJs to arrive ready to perform without the logistical complications of transporting a full DJ setup.
Indian / South Asian Weddings
-
Absolutely. Our DJs have been providing music for South Asian events for more than 30 years, giving us a wealth of experience with the many cultures, traditions, languages, and celebrations found throughout India and South Asia. We understand that South Asia is incredibly diverse, and that those cultural differences can influence everything from the music and traditions to the flow and atmosphere of an event.
-
Absolutely. Multicultural weddings are a natural part of the South Asian wedding landscape in the United States, and we've DJed many celebrations that bring together different cultures, musical traditions, and families. Our goal is to create a musical experience that gives everyone something to connect with while still respecting the traditions and preferences that are important to you and your families.
-
Yes. Some of our DJs are fluent in Hindi, Punjabi, and Gujarati. Having DJs who understand these languages can be especially helpful when working with South Asian families, traditions, announcements, and music requests throughout an event.
Production
-
Yes. In addition to providing DJs, Sound Nation offers full production support, including professional event lighting. We can work with your planner and production team to create a lighting design that complements the venue, music, and overall atmosphere of your event.
-
Yes. Sound Nation has a full inventory of LED walls that can be configured in a variety of shapes and sizes. We can work with your planner and production team to design an LED wall presentation that complements the overall look and feel of your event.
-
Sound Nation offers a wide range of special effects and event enhancements, including CO₂ cannons, lasers, cold sparks, and other production elements. When thoughtfully integrated into the music and production design, these effects can transform a dance floor into a high-energy nightclub-style experience.
Booking & Planning
-
Sound Nation does not charge by the hour. Our pricing is based on the services we provide, and we dedicate ourselves to your event for the full day—even if the actual event takes place over only a few hours in the evening. We also do not book multiple events on the same day. This allows our team to be fully committed to your event and gives us the flexibility to dedicate the necessary time to preparation, setup, soundcheck, production, and the event itself.
-
We start by providing a detailed, easy-to-read, line-item proposal outlining the services we're recommending for your event. We'll also meet with you over a video call to discuss the proposal and answer any questions. Once you're ready to book, we'll generate an invoice in the same straightforward format. A 50% payment is required to secure your date, with the remaining balance due 7 days before your event.
-
Approximately one month before your event, we'll collect the information our team needs to prepare, including your song selections, event timelines, and floor plans. We provide easy-to-use Google Forms to help organize everything in one place. If you need help with your music selections, our team is also happy to guide you through the process and help shape the soundtrack for your event.
